The mooring game is a tough one -

First of all, you can’t easily get a mooring on the South Coast these days. In the Solent area alone there are 1000’s of people actually on the waiting list for moorings and berths. Some patient people have been waiting for 10 years for a prime berths.
Secondly, if you can get a mooring, then chances are it will be extortionately expensive.
Thirdly it will be up river or tidal and will take you up to one hour to get to somewhere where you can put your sail up or increase you speed.
Fourthly it will not have any security and you constantly worry over whether your boat is safe and secure.
